Seven-character Quatrain · Singing of Du Fu

His worry for the nation and pity for the people were known to the sun and moon.

This extraordinary talent is respected across the world.

If reborn, I'd have Du Fu as my teacher. (Zimei refers to Du Fu.)

In chaotic times, he drifted yet didn't cease his aspiration.

He kept writing constantly, recording the years.

His excellent works have lasted through the ages.

His noble virtue and lofty character are praised all over the land.

In his thatched cottage, he wrote "Song of the Ruined Hut",

Unwilling to submit, he retained his proud spirit.

"Three Officers" and "Three Partings" are masterpieces through the ages.

He's called the "Sage of Poetry" and praised for millennia. (Three Officers and Three Partings refer to specific works.)

Seven-character Octave · Singing of Du Fu

Full of knowledge, he composed elegant verses.

Having a tough life, he lived in exile elsewhere.

Each poem is as beautiful as brocade with poetic charm.

Every word is like a jewel, fragrant with the ink's charm.

He assisted in the rise and fall of the state as a noble man.

He helped make the country prosperous as an ordinary person could.

Du Fu's noble integrity is emulated by all.

How could China not always be prosperous! (Shaoling refers to Du Fu.)

A great Confucian scholar was demoted to a commoner.

He lived in poverty for half his life while wandering.

When he wrote, it fascinated poets.

When his poems were read, they moved the gods and spirits.

Rain beat on the wooden door accompanied by the water clock's sound.

The wind blew over the thatched cottage with moonlight nearby.

He kept the country in his heart and cherished his homeland.

His name remains in history, deeply impressing later generations.
